Last call for the Treppenwitz 10K Challenge!

I can't believe only 35 brave souls have signed up for my walking challenge so far.  You are aware that it begins this Sunday morning, right???

C'mon people, this is as much for me as it is for you.  Do you really want to be responsible for me remaining a pudgy middle aged man?

Okay, to be fair, there isn't much you can do about the middle aged part...  and I'm pretty comfortable with being a man.  But the blame for the whole pudgy thing?  Squarely on your shoulders if you don't get yourself a pedometer and sign up for this challenge!

You know you want to!

[And yes, there will be prizes... as in multiple prizes! And not necessarily just for being the best!!!]

FYI I might have signed up, but I couldn't spare the time in the last few days to go get a pedometer. Maybe next time.

I have advertized it on my blog. Hope it helps.
Shabbat Shalom to the Bogner household, including its four-legged members.

Okay, you twisted my arm enough. There's an REI down the road from my office, and the weather is beautiful today, so maybe I'll even walk over there. ;-)

(I mean to get a pedometer, I don't have one yet.)

I joined, and now...off to walmart to get a pedometer! Thank you David!

I joined and am going to get a pedometer.
Rachel - if I join you have to join too. We can chat on the phone as we walk.

I'm in. And, after Shabbat, I'll plug it on my blog as well.

Happy walking, everyone!

Haven't found a pedometer yet, and am insanely fearful of self-sabotage: signing up and then NOT doing it because I've signed up....sigh....I'll try...

question...

Can I wear it while working out on my bike? Does that count (and will the pedometer even register). (I walk 35 minutes a day minimum so I can accept an answer of no; I just need to find a pedometer).

Just signed up! Going to go out and buy a pedometer on my lunch break. :)

Just got my pedometer. So many choices! But I think I got the right one, it'll work in my shirt pocket so I don't have yet another thing clipped to my belt. 136 steps and counting! ;-) Of course on Sunday I'm doing volunteer work, and will mostly be sitting. :-/

are you sure you are a pudgy middle aged man and not some guilt inducing jewish mother of indeterminate age???

So I was just reading your blog, and my wife calls from her cell. "Hi! I'm at the Sports Authority! Need anything?" (Footnote: she never, ever goes to Sports Authority.) I saw it as a dash of hashgacha, so I said "Bring me forth a pedometer!" I fully expect to be the proud last-place finisher, but here goes anyway. :D

Posted by: psachya | May 22, 2009 11:37:21 PM

I'll duel you, Psachya, for the last place finish. I posted on the Modiin list for a pedometer, and you wouldn't believe how many offers I got--giving away or really low cost. So I'm definitely in. Ilana-Davita even made me her "comrade" whatever that means (maybe we can pool our steps?)

And I take no responsibility for your pudge. I got my own problems.

I bought a pedometer a few years ago. Maybe I ought to get another. This is a good idea for my Diet Support Group!

It's Sunday! Good luck to all participants!

I entered my steps for Friday, and estimated ones for Saturday... and the walker site averaged those two low scores (hadn't started yet THE MONTH), and now is saying I have to do more steps every day to catch up... sigh.....

Posted by: rickismom | May 25, 2009 12:36:54 AM

Well, you got me, I'm in. I don't think I can resist this challenge, as I've wanted to be more active again for so long already...

Posted by: Kathrin | May 25, 2009 1:35:56 AM

humph, just looked at the chart and i am NOT at the top......i didnt realize how competitive i was....must walk more....BUT I am doing more than you, dear Trep....

do i get extra points for walking with hand weights too? pretty please??

Posted by: Hadassah | May 25, 2009 1:52:11 PM

So, despite being fairly sure that I would come in last, I managed to get a pedometer and sign up... but I cannot make the stupid pedometer work!!

So, two days have gone by and despite trying to walk more, I have nothing to show for it. No numbers!!

I can't even guess, 'cause I am pretty sure I walk less than anyone you know!

I am so bummed!!!

Posted by: Rivka with a capital A | May 25, 2009 10:37:13 PM

Am also having major pedometer issues. Can't get it to work, it underestimates my steps, it keeps popping open unexpectedly, which negates any steps I've taken since it popped open, which, since I don't know when it happens, makes the entire enterprise conjectural...

Etc., etc., etc. And yes, I've tried reading the instructions, but they appear to be written in badly translated Sanskrit.

(sigh)

I'll keep trying. I guess I wasn't expecting to win this thing anyway.
