A simple wish...
... that this year should be a sweet one filled with health, happiness and prosperity.
Before I sign off for Rosh Hashanah, I'd like to share one of the most important lesson I've learned from my bees:
The best way to ensure a sweet future is to resist the urge to take every last drop of honey that life offers you. Make sure you leave some behind for those who provided you with the sweetness in the first place... and some for the stranger you may never meet.
L'Shannah Tova (wishing you and yours a good year), from all of us here at Chez Treppenwitz.

Amen! Good mussar, delivered with sweetness. May Hashem bless the inhabitants of Chez Treppenwitz with simcha, spiritual growth, and success in 5769 -- in good health!

Shana tova!
The honey is sitting on the top shelf in the kitchen, next to the yom tov dishes. Someone here has been keeping a close eye on it, and offering me regular reminders that Rosh Hashana is the day we're going to get to eat Yonah's Abba's bees' honey!

I see those pictures, and start coming up with technical questions. I hope you don't mind too much. (I know you can always ignore them.)
I notice you are making comb honey. My dad only harvested the honey, and never the wax, so I can't ask him. He didn't want the bees to spend any energy on making wax, since it is harder. In the second picture, it looks like there is comb on part of the foundation, but not on the rest. Is this because you cut it off, or is there something going on there that I don't understand. When you make comb honey, do you make it on plastic foundation and then cut it off, so that the lower half of that frame did have comb in it earlier in the day? If so, wouldn't that mean that the comb is only sealed on one side?
OK, I'll stop now, shana tova.

We'll be enjoying some of the honey you sent this past summer... mmmmmmm.
Shana Tova to you all... see you in under a month! :)

Shana tova to you, your family, and to all of Israel. Your message is indeed a sweet one - and yes, you have to care about and leave for others. It's a great message before the chag. Enjoy the time with your family (I've got my soldier son at home, so I'm already happy and waiting for the chag...after the fried chicken...well, baked, breaded chicken that tastes like fried chicken...is done, I only have 12 more things to cook...oy...
Shana tova,
Paula

Shana Tova to your whole family. I was thinking of you yesterday. At our shul, they had various activities for the kids. They had a local bee keeper. (I'm in too much of a hurry to look up the "technical" name now). He was showing various things about the trade and how he does things. He did a great job, except he took a little long and got too technical for the little kids, so by the end, it was just the adults, but was fascinating none the less.

oh, i've been wanting to show my students honey in the comb, but didn't get to the farm in time...a field trip to your apiary would have been perfect! in lieu of that, I'll just share the pictures. have a wonderful yom tov, and a shana tova u'metuka (how can you help it with all that sweet goodness in a jar??)

Wow! A few days ago, someone (can't remember who) mentioned that you harvest your own honey. I was doubtful, but now I see the pictures to prove it!
Wishing you and your family a happy and healthy new year!

May all at Chez Treppenwitz be written and sealed for a good year!
(And thanks for blogging, btw. The theoretical awareness of variability within every group was not very efficient in correcting my stereotype of "the settlers". Reading your blog has been.)

Shana Tova! Thanks for the photos of the honey and bees -I would love to keep hives but am dangerously allergic to the wee wonders. I think they are a miracle and never tire watching them work. Wishing you all a sweet New Year.

L'Shana Tova!
I have been looking at your blog for a while now and really enjoy what you have to say. So, I thought I would nominate you for a little award...

JDMDad - the word is apiarist, I think. In hebrew it is unfortunately similar-sounding to "undertaker" כוורן או קברן

Shana tova to you and your family, David.
Your neighbour's photos feature in my favourite benscher published by Toby Press. If you haven't got a copy, make sure you get yourself one!

I like the photo of Trep as beekeeper. I would hazard a guess that you have that same look on your face when you are playing trombone (during the rests, of course).
It is the look of a man who is doing something worthwhile that they enjoy whole-heartedly.
Although I can't say that it explains why the bees are producing milk-chocolate...
