At least 8 dead in Jerusalem terror attack
Within the past hour a terrorist broke into the 'Merkaz` HaRav Kook' yeshiva in Jerusalem with an AK-47 assault rifle and killed at least 8 students and wounded as many as 10 others.
According to the Jerusalem Post, when the news hit the airwaves in Gaza, people streamed out in to the streets and began firing guns into the air in celebration. These are not human beings and are undeserving of human consideration.
I will try to update this post as more information becomes available.

Of course there was public celebration in the territories - a feu de joie in Gaza, cheering, and candies to passersby. This attack comes one day after some American official "persuaded" the Palestinians to re-commit to the path of peace.
Enough said.

My mother watched as the victims came into the E.R. It was quite a scene. How much longer is Olmert going to sit on his hands.

It sure does look like what the Olmert government is doing is
finalizing the terms of Israel's surrender to Abbas and Hamas.
If you all are not going to bother pointing your American supplied
weapons at your enemies, could you at least do us the favor of
returning them to us?

Sadly, the Zaka offices in NY appear to be closed and this has been the case for several months now. Their donation page has been down and their phone numbers have apparently both been disconnected since last fall.
A worthy alternative would be Hatzolah, which seems to do similar work. You can check them out here

Tuvea, Let's be honest here for a minute. After all we've seen the last few years, do you really expect that Olmert cares about the lives of his fellow jews, certainly yeshiva bachurim, enough to jepordize his standing in the western world as a "rodef Shalom?" The real fault here lies with Ovadiah Yosef, who seems to hold his bribes,er funding for sefardic institutions above the lives of his fellow jews. With one word he can topple the government, but instead he'd rather bend over to the secular elite and accept their table scraps, rather than try to bring about the end of a government that is aiding the murder of jews. I hope he can live with the fact that he killed yeshiva bochurim tonight, in order to keep his yeshivot funded.

Attack won't halt talks - Israel
That's a great negotiating position: We won't fight no matter what you do. The corpses of the students aren't cold yet and Israel had to make sure that the world understood that this atrocity doesn't change their eagerness to capitulate.
It's hard to make a mass murder worse, but I think the Israeli gov't just managed to do that.
Is this suicidal administration completely divorced from public opinion, or do I (preferring right-wing news sources) have a biased view of Israeli public opinion? If the current gov't has popular support then you all are in a world of hurt, because then you're living in the most actively suicidal democracy. If that's the case, then reasonable Israelis just have to vote with their feet and get out. Religious Zionism aside, it's better to live to fight another day. Let the secular liberals martyr themselves at the altar of peace.
If public opinion still has any power in Israel and despite its arcane parliamentary system it can still be called a democracy, then it’s time for protests, letters to the editor, civil disobedience and elections. Oh, and I’ll be happy to tell Condy Rice to go soak her head while you all flatten Gaza.

Let's be clear what this saber-rattling translates into in reality.
Both Israel and America are feeling there way into this new type of "asymmetrical" warfare. The only options that seem to be available are:
1) Limited response, targeted killings - which we have seen serve the terrorists' purposes, and are easily spun into PR "successes" and used to accrue legitimacy and power.
2) Expulsion of the entire Gazan populace - probably by a violent Israeli incursion that sends panicked Palis across the Egyptian border, where - after the storm of anti-Israel denunciations die down, they will set up internationally-sponsored refugee camps that breed another generation of terrorists. Sound familiar? And it's not at all clear that Israelis have the will to muster an attack sufficient to (re)instill fear in the hearts of most Palis.
3) Genocide of Gazan Palestinians - driving them into the sea. Is this what your dehumanizing comment implies Israel should do? It is probably impossible for Israel to implement due to objections/divisions within Israel. Expect fierce delegitimization of Israel, and possibly attacks from other Arab nations.
Note what is NOT on the list of options - that favorite of so many reasonable, moderate supporters of Israel: killing the "bad" Gazans while saving the "good" Gazans, with whom we will talk and eventually live in peace. This is no longer realistic - the terrorists are seamlessly infiltrated among the populace, and the younger generation has been thoroughly radicalized, salted through with misinformation and hatred.
It simply can't be done.
So when we cry out in anger and frustration - let's be clear what Israeli options are in the real world.

You're forgetting another option that would certainly end the violence.
4) The loss of the Third Jewish Commonwealth though attrition.
I think (2) is not unreasonable. Israel and the US would have to pressure Egypt sufficiently to absorb the Palestinians into their country. No camps. No different passports. No refugee status. They get regular Egyptian citizenship and some assistance for new housing in exchange for renouncing all claims to Gaza, or they stay in Gaza while the munitions fall on their heads. The Arabs will scream that it's a land grab, so Israel should keep Gaza empty for 50 years (except for patroling the border with Egypt) to make it clear that's it's not about the land.
Don't get me wrong, I think tens of thousands of Gazans would be killed in such an operation. Israel doesn't have the will to do such a thing, and is by default choosing (4).
