Here we go again

A suicide bomber blew up in a crowded bakery in Eilat this morning killing at least three people.

Fatah's Al Aksa Martyr Brigade (under the command of the 'moderate' PA President Abbas) has claimed credit.  Please note that a while back I promised that the fighting between Palestinian factions would eventually give way to each trying to prove their mettle by showing how badly they could bloody Israel's nose.

Welcome to the future.

I wonder how our leadership will manage to justify continued restraint in the face of this assault.

David,
I trust you are not suggesting that if it weren't for the infighting there would be no attacks on Israel. Of course you don't. The "Palestinian" terror efforts are constant, only their capabilities change.

Though I would suggest that the infighting diminishes their capabilities, and that they know that their only way out of it is an Israeli powerful response. Draw your own conclusions.

Appeasement on a national level is akin to enablement on a psychological level. Israel's leaders lack resolve because you (as a people) keep wondering what you've done to provoke the attacks. You are in fact your Lord's cherished bride, but you (like Gomer in the Book of Hosea) regard yourself merely the U.N.'s whore. You owe that pimp nothing!

I can't help but see the connection between the powers-that-be "cracking down on the settlers", (house detentions, etc.) all because one woman in Hebron screamed at an Arab, and the suicide bombing today. It seems that this government can't put things into the proper perspective.

Well, maybe now they'll finally do something about that Egypt passage. I'm not holding my breath, though. : (

Anat... No, obviously they have been trying all along. Your second point goes more to what I meant. Any attention they can direct at one another is attention they can't direct at us. Your last point puzzles me though... are you saying that the best course is not to respond? We tried that and it only emboldened them.

Bob... I don't think anyone with any sense would suggest Israel owes the UN any allegiance.

westbankmama... Your comment makes me think you might be too close to the subject matter. I was also disgusted that a settler woman cursing at an Arab woman (in terms less provocative than many insults exchanged on the floor of the Knesset) is made into a media event and human rights issue (even a security issue) by the media. However I don't see any connection to the bombing in Eilat.

Irina... You'd be wise not to hold your breath.

...and while three people were murdered in Eilat, Israel proper, by a Palestinian terrorist during a raging war in the Gaza Strip, what were last night's headlines on BBC? Oh, yeah, Israel's "contestable" (the word used by BBC's expert who couldn't quite say what BBC wanted him to say: "illegal", since it wasn't) use of cluster bombs. The news of the suicide bombing was contained in that little strip that runs across the bottom of the tube....More "Bad Israel Footage, Ignore Bad Arab Behavior" from the MSM...

David, we agree -- no one with any sense would suggest that Israel owes the UN anything. However, that little "with-any-sense" qualifier culls the herd significantly.
