Kill me now!

Mid-Afternoon (Israel Time) Update:

Today is the 17th (Shiva Asar) day of the Hebrew month of Tamuz.... A day in Jewish history on which the following five tragedies occurred:

1. The (first set of) Tablets with the Ten Commandments were broken by Moses.
2. The daily sacrifices were prevented from being brought in the Temple in Jerusalem.
3. The walls of Jerusalem were breached, ultimately leading to its destruction.
4. Apostumus (a Greek official during the second temple period) publically burned the Torah.
5. An idol was allowed to be erected in the Temple.

This information is probably only of interest if you are observing this relatively 'minor' fast day today (as I am).

It is almost 5:00 in the afternoon, and I have the mother of all caffeine headaches. Coffee, you are a cruel mistress!

Right now I'm trying to decide how best to end my miserable existence; by sticking a sharp object through my eye and into my brain... or by forcing myself to re-read this morning's excruciating blog entry.

The coffee remark is interesting - coffee, a female, when all languages attach a male article to it? Oh yes...the apple issue. I forgot. ;)

Maybe it's just cruelty I'm associating with the female gender...and not the coffee. ;-)

Only therapy will tell for sure.

also note the headache - referred to as mother.
It all comes spewing out when we don't have our coffee now doesn't it.

OK ladies... I give up! Uncle!!! (or aunt!), or whatever you want me to say that won't get me lynched by the YaYa Sisterhood.

You people are looking MUCH too closely at my [obviously poor] choice of words.

For the record: Sometimes a cigar really *is* just a cigar!

David,
I find the best cure to the fast day caffeine headache is to bang my head repeatedly against whatever hard surface happens to be handy. I will tell you what Shiva asar bTamuz means to me. It means that it is time to start curtailing my caffeine habit in anticipation of Tisha B'Av. Luckily I live in Baltimore, where not only is it hot (high 90s in July and August) but it is also humid. Thus making the fast experience so much more pleanant. my flatmate contends that there will be no Tisha B'Av this year, becasue Mashiach will be here.
anyway, kol tuv

I'm smiling hugely here in CT, Dave! It's so nice to know that there are other women besides your sisters, mother and wife who will keep you in line when we are not available! ;)

Gals - - you made me proud today! Keep up the good work!

Just remember, though, he has been well trained by one of the best (his wife) and though he may be brave with his typing fingers, he truly is one of the most sensitive men on the earth. He only writes these things in testosterone ignorance and is incapable of overcoming these tendencies. It's simply not a choice. It 'IS' who he is!!!!

Entertaining, as always!

Oh, this has been the best comment thread here ever since I started reading! I'm getting stares from my husband now for bursting into laughter.
