The Jaffa Gate... the Armenian Quarter... the view of Har Ha-Zeyitim... and finally, the Kotel itself. I had my iPhone recording the entire time we navigated those very streets, and all the time I was recalling this post.

A wonderful trip, and lots of warm memories... not least of which was spending a few hours with you and Zahava!
Ari commented on 'A Vespa Ride through the Old City of Jerusalem'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341c581e53ef016760b3c936970b2012-01-17T22:23:17Z2012-01-17T22:23:17ZAriTrep, I'm visiting Israel right now, even as I type this.
I'm visiting Israel right now, even as I type this. Saw the sights yesterday and today in the Old City that you feature in the video -- and, man is it spectacular in every way. Ir David and Tunnel Tours are nothing short of brilliant at bringing our ancient and storied presence here to life and illustrating in ways words never could the centrality of this place to Judaism. Afraid to tell you that our excellent guide mentioned the same thing Fred pointed out -- Dome of the Rock is a shrine, but the other, smaller dome on the Temple Mount is Al-Aqsa Mosque. That's where prayers are actually held. As you know, nuance and terminology is freighted with significance :>) Interesting to note also that ancient Muslim scholars have noted that 1) Al Aqsa was built as much in tribute to Shlomo HaMelech's Beit Hamikdash as it was to celebrate Islam's triumph over Christianity. And here's the kicker: Jews were the caretakers of the mosque for many, many years.
Sonal commented on 'A Vespa Ride through the Old City of Jerusalem'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341c581e53ef016760870e6d970b2012-01-14T19:21:16Z2012-01-14T19:21:16ZSonalEncore! Do people pray in it? Are those people Muslims? Does it have passages from the Koran as part of its decoration and adorments? The definition I find for 'Mosque' is: "a Muslim place of worship, usually having one or more minarets and often decorated with elaborate tracery and texts from the Koran Also called masjid musjid". So please tell me in what way this is not a mosque.
treppenwitz commented on 'A Vespa Ride through the Old City of Jerusalem'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341c581e53ef0168e5498a66970c2012-01-10T09:54:01Z2012-01-10T09:54:01Ztreppenwitzhttp://www.treppenwitz.comFred...
